Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:
Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang. :D
The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

You don't need to have a picture there. I use the new info thingy (which we all hate, yeah) and I don't have an image. Not sure how I did it, though :lol:

If you read the disclaimer before you upgraded to the new version you would have seen that it clearly stated that there is no going back to the old version.

Honestly though, if you just don't fill in the info in the parts you don't want to use, the overall final result is pretty much the same as it was, only now there is a button to click to show or hide your interests, etc.

Eventually, it was just going to auto-upgrade you to this new version whether you chose to or not, so it's best to just get familiar with it.

Indeed~ There should have been an option to tell them "ahn-ahn, no way, sweet cheeks" and they'd just remind you when you accessed your page, if you so wanted; otherwise, I was given the impression if you already changed, that was that ^^;
